Biography Text
Bess was born on Christmas Day, the fourth of nine children and the first girl. Upon her birth her oldest brother remarked that she was the best Christmas present he could have asked for. Her family owned a farm and she grew up working in the fields, picking potatoes. She did a lot of the cooking as well. Bess married at 17 to a man from Woonsocket but whose parents were Canadian. They met and married in Canada and did not move to Woonsocket until 1948. They had 2 sons. While working at the George E. Mousley's mill she made Christmas decorations, including stockings and tree skirts.
