Biography Text

Marie Louise was born in St. Cuthbert, province of Quebec, Canada on April 18, 1893, the daughter of Joseph and Angelina, nee Durand, Tellier. She was one of nine children. Her siblings in order of birth are: Napoleon, Annette, Philibert, Marie-Ann, Alphonse, Diane, Marie Rose and Alice.

Her father Joseph was a farmer all his life but due to dwindling farm acreage in Quebec it was very difficult to provide for his large family. Joseph and Angelina decided to emigrate to Woonsocket with the family in 1904 . They arrived by train at the Woonsocket Railroad Depot. Her uncle lived in the Social district and he volunteered to take in the entire family of 11. They remained in her uncle's triple decker for an entire year as the family sought employment and housing.

On April 17, 1917 Marie Louise married Armand Peloquin in the parish chapel in St. Ann School. The couple had eight children, five boys and three girls: Gerald, Rita, Raymond, Normand, Constance, Roger Doris and Eugene. The family lived at 205 Gaulin Avenue in Woonsocket.

Armand Peloquin was the Business Agent of Local 801, Carpenters and Joiners of America. The 400 carpenters in the Union would come to their home to pay their union dues.

All of her five sons and 2 of her brothers-in-Law served in the military in either WWII, the Korean War or the Cold War. The Armand and Marie Louse Peloquin home was a very happy home grounded in the Catholic faith.

Marie Louise died on August 28, 1967 at the age of 74. She was buried in St. Jean-Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham, MA alongside her husband, Armand who died on October 25, 1960 at age 66.
