Eugene was born in Woonsocket on October 19, 1917 to Philippe and Marie, nee Salvas, Godin. Eugene was one of 11 children. At the age of 16 Eugene went to work in the mills, he also served in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp).

In 1941 he married Rita Peloquin at St. Ann's Church. They had two children a son, Robert and a daughter, Dotti. Robert went on to marry Lori Auger and Dotti married Charles Mondoux.

In 1942 Eugene joined the Army to serve during WWII. He was a Corporal in the 322nd Field Artillery Battalion, 83rd Infantry Division. He earned 5 battle stars in the European Theatre fighting in Normandy, Brittany, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star.

He worked as a weaver and loom fixer in various mills. His life centered on family and he is remembered as a loving Pepere.

Eugene died January 21, 2007 at age 89 and is buried at St. Jean-Baptiste cemetery in Bellingham, MA.
